Meet the team behind this journey
You will lead one of the research teams that are part of the Translator track to advance the translation quality, language coverage, and capabilities of the neural networks that power our Translator product. The teams work from early-stage research ideas to the deployment of quality-assured neural network models in production.
Your Responsibilities
The Team Lead serves a hybrid role of team leadership, tech leadership, and research project management.
- Strategic Leadership: Together with key stakeholders, you will represent the overall goals and strategic objectives of your team’s research responsibilities.
- Delivery Excellence: You will work with your team to drive initiatives and collaboration to ensure rapid progress toward delivery at the team and track level.
- Technical Leadership: You will work closely with your team to stay up-to-date on the latest developments and research opportunities to collaboratively define your team’s research agenda.
- Team Management: You will develop and maintain a cooperative research environment that makes collaboration as effective and efficient as possible.
- People Leadership: You will inspire, develop, recruit, and motivate a team of high performing research scientists and research data engineers. This includes building 1:1 relationships with people, setting their development or improvement plans, and establishing a healthy, non-retaliatory feedback culture.
- Growth Management: You will enjoy accompanying change and finding new solutions with your team, your peers, managers, and other stakeholders, in a growing and fast-changing environment.
Qualities we look for
- You hold a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a comparable subject.
- You have a proven track record of successfully leading and scaling software engineering teams, ideally in a global, high-growth scale-up, and research-intensive environment.
- You have a solution-oriented mindset and are able to navigate through ambiguity and change effectively.
- You have hands-on experience in the following areas:
- Software development, ideally in the context of data science, ML engineering, systems engineering, or distributed services
- Technical and people leadership
- Deep Learning (advantage but not a requirement)
- You are open to finding pragmatic and efficient ways to collaborate at the team and track level, taking into account the demands of a research-centric environment.
- You have excellent communication skills and the ability to closely collaborate with other teams across the organization.
- High level of English proficiency (knowledge of German and other languages is an advantage)
